The Barbados Garrison Historical Consortium (better known as the ‘Garrison Consortium’) has been in operation since 2006 with a mandate to assist all stakeholders with the development of the Garrison Area within the context of its historic setting.

This means that while we work to protect the historic authenticity of the Garrison, we also look to promotes viable opportunities as an historic attraction - The best way to inherently conserve what is an internationally important historic site! This was underscored, in 2011, when the area became part of our new World Heritage Site, ‘Historic Bridgetown & its Garrison.

Our organization is constantly active in:

  • Historic research
  • Protecting the architectural and historic authenticity of the area
  • Promoting adherence to international protocols on conservation procedures
  • Promoting education of its historical importance (signage, tours etc.)
  • Developing new products and ideas for marketing, interpretation and use of the site
  • Providing support for any activity or business that in some way supports the viability of the Garrison as an historic site where people can live, work and play
